Why aren't more republicans for conserving ecology?

I mean it goes along right into our ideology, rather than waste all the natural resources we have in a money making attempt, make sure we harvest natural resources in such a way that we will have a continuous renewable supply. However, I think some big business people have taken control of this issue and are arguing against common sense conservatism and more towards greed and disregard of the environment. I'm just wondering why are so many people buying into it?
