Grey hair semi-permanent color?

My hair is cut very short, number 3 on top, 2 on sides, the color is a warm brown with about 50 percent grey, totally grey sides and sideburns. If I put a semi-permanent color on it, would it cause the grey to appear like highlights? I'm 47 yo male, just wanna a little more youthful look???
