Can anyone help me with my crisis of faith?

Recently I took an art history course and was most disturbed to learn that religions since the beginning of time have basically taught the same beliefs and have continuously repackaged them to fit the current beliefs. It really disturbs me that Christianity is nothing more than Pagan beliefs repackaged to make everyone happy. I can't fathom still being a Christian after what I've learned. I've never been very comfortable with all the silly religious traditions, but I am really confused with what to believe! I mean, it seems like since every religion essentially teaches the same principles that it doesn't matter what to believe as long as you believe in a higher power. Does anyone have any book suggestions that are unbiased that will help me?
